Privacy policy
The short version. Ohmly has no accounts and no servers of ours. Your jobs, customers, drawings, test results and certificates are kept on your device and are not sent to us. The one thing that reaches the network is advertising on the free tier, and Pro removes it.
1. Who we are
Ohmly is published by Proxime Technologies Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17125907, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. You can reach us at [email protected].
Under UK data protection law we are the controller for the limited information described in sections 4 and 5. You are the controller of the details you record in Ohmly about your own customers. That information does not reach us, so we are not your processor for it.
2. Your work stays on your device
Ohmly keeps your work in the app's own storage on your phone. That includes your projects and circuit designs, the customer and property details you enter, test results and issued certificates, photographs you attach, your business profile and rates, and your app settings.
None of it is sent to us. There is no Ohmly account, no sign-up and no copy on our servers, so we cannot see your work, and we could not produce or restore it if you asked.
3. Backups, and moving to a new phone
Android offers two things here, and Ohmly treats them differently.
- Google Drive backup is off until you switch it on. If you turn it on in Settings, Android copies your records and signatures to your own Google account, encrypted, where Google's privacy policy applies. Your site photographs are never included. We receive none of it, and you can switch it off again at any time.
- Phone-to-phone transfer is on. Setting up a new Android phone from your old one carries your work across, photographs included. That copy goes directly between the two handsets.
You can also export your business details, rates, price list and job index to a file from Settings, and share it wherever you choose. It does not contain your drawings or certificates.
If your phone is lost or destroyed and you have not switched on Drive backup, we cannot recover your work. Please keep a copy you control.
4. Advertising on the free tier
The free tier shows advertisements, served by Google AdMob. Pro and Pro+ show none, and on those tiers the advertising code is never started, so no advertising request is made at all.
What is shared. Requesting an advertisement sends Google your device's advertising identifier, together with the technical details any advertisement request carries, such as device type and a general location worked out from your connection. Google acts as a controller for that information and uses it under Google's privacy policy. This may involve transfers outside the UK, protected by the safeguards Google puts in place.
What is never shared. Nothing you put into Ohmly. No project, circuit, calculation, certificate, photograph, signature, customer, address or price is sent to us, to Google or to an advertiser.
Your choice. We ask for your consent before any advertisement is requested, and that consent is our lawful basis for it. Declining is a real answer: you still see advertisements, but they are not personalised. You can change your mind at any time in Settings, under Advertising choices, or reset or switch off the advertising identifier in your Android settings.
We do not profile you and we do not build an audience from you. Our advertisements are not targeted using anything worked out about you from your behaviour, and gambling, high-cost short-term credit, dating and sexually suggestive advertising are blocked from this app.
5. Payments, and emails you send us
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Google Play. We never see your card number, payment details or billing address. Google gives us aggregate sales reporting and tells the app whether a subscription is active.
If you email us, we keep that correspondence so we can answer you and for as long as we need it to deal with the matter, and then we delete it. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to you.
6. Analytics and tracking
Ohmly contains no analytics software, no crash reporting and no third-party tracker. We do not measure how you use the app, and nothing reports your activity or any error back to us.
7. What the app can access on your phone
Ohmly asks for these only when you use the feature that needs them, and declining leaves the rest of the app working:
- Camera, to attach a photograph to a job or a checklist step, and to pick out text from a photograph of a consumer unit so you do not have to type it. Both happen on your phone, and photographs stay on your device.
- Approximate location, to suggest a postcode when you record a property. What this permission gives us stays on your device and is never sent anywhere, including to an advertiser.
- Notifications, for reminders you set yourself, such as an inspection recall.
Ohmly also uses network access for the two things described above, advertising and Google Play billing, and a few technical permissions that Google's own libraries add and that tell us nothing about you. 8. When information leaves your device
Only in the ways described above: an advertisement request on the free tier, Google Play billing, and Google Drive backup if you have switched it on. Everything else leaves only when you send it, by exporting or sharing a document through your phone's normal share sheet. Where it goes after that is governed by the service you chose.
9. Your rights
UK data protection law gives you rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Because we hold no personal information about you on any system of ours, you exercise most of these on your device:
- See and take a copy of your data: it is all in the app, and Settings exports your business details, rates, price list and job index to a file.
- Correct it: edit the record in the app.
- Erase it: Settings, Delete all data, or uninstall the app.
- Withdraw advertising consent: Settings, Advertising choices.
For anything we do hold, such as an email you sent us, write to [email protected]. If you are unhappy with how we have handled a request you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Ohmly does not make any automated decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect.
10. Children
Ohmly is a professional tool for qualified electricians and apprentices in training. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
11. This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and contains no tracking scripts. Its typefaces, images and code are served from this domain, so loading a page here makes no request to any third party. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site secure.
12. Changes, and how to reach us
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and where a change matters we will say so in the app. Privacy questions: [email protected]. Anything else: [email protected].
